What is ClubGG?
ClubGG is the private-club application of the GGPoker network. Instead of one open lobby, play happens inside clubs: a host creates the club, players join with a Club ID, and the tables are visible only to members. That makes ClubGG a fundamentally different product from GGPoker Global — different lobby, different player pool, different way of getting in. This page compares ClubGG with PokerStars. Access model: open lobby vs invite-based club
On PokerStars you register an account and the entire lobby is immediately available to you. On ClubGG you also need a club to join, which means someone vetted the room you are sitting in. For a new player this is the single largest practical difference: the club decides which stakes run, when they run, and who is at the table. It adds a step before your first hand, and in exchange the table you sit at is a known community rather than an anonymous pool.
Table volume at local peak hours
Traffic charts describe a network globally, not the game you can actually sit in tonight. A local club concentrates its activity into the evening hours of its own community, so micro and mid stakes can be busier there at 21:00 local time than the same stakes on a far larger global network whose peak sits in another timezone. At high stakes the relationship inverts: scale wins, and a global network sustains games a single club cannot. Check the lobby at the hour you actually play before drawing conclusions.
Software and user experience
The PokerStars desktop client is mature and deep: extensive table configuration, layouts and filtering, which suits multi-tabling from a computer. ClubGG was designed mobile-first — quick to open, quick to seat, and fully usable from a phone without a desktop install. If your poker happens in short sessions on a phone, that difference matters more than any feature list. If you regularly run six or more tables, a desktop-oriented client is easier to control.
Formats you will and will not find
The GG ecosystem popularised formats that classic clients do not carry: Spin & Gold jackpot sit-and-gos, Rush & Cash fast-fold, Short Deck (6+ Hold'em), All-in or Fold and Flip & Go. PokerStars leans on its own long-established set, including Zoom fast-fold and a very broad daily tournament schedule. Whether a club actually runs a given format depends on the club, not just the network — a small club will not sustain every format at every stake.
Rewards: programme vs club arrangement
On a global operator, rake-back value arrives through a published loyalty programme whose effective percentage varies with volume and stake. Inside a club, the arrangement is set by the club itself and is therefore both more variable and more transparent — you can ask exactly what it is before joining. Neither model is automatically better value. Compare the effective percentage at your stake and your monthly volume, and get the club's terms in writing rather than relying on advertised headline numbers.
Who each one suits
PokerStars fits players who want an immediately open lobby, a heavy desktop client, the deepest tournament calendar, and who are comfortable in English with a studied regular population. ClubGG fits players who want a local-language community, softer and more social low-stakes tables, mobile-first play and a rewards arrangement they can see in advance. Playing both dilutes bankroll and study time; pick one and learn it properly.
